Why Backlink Monitoring Matters
Backlinks are a key SEO signal. They show search engines that your site is trustworthy and authoritative. But just because you earned a backlink once, doesn’t mean it’ll always stay live—or valuable.
Links can be removed, edited, or set to “nofollow” without you knowing. That’s why monitoring your backlinks is so important. SiteGuru checks your links regularly and lets you know if anything changes.
How to Add a Backlink
To get started, head over to Backlink Monitor under the Links section of your SiteGuru account. You’ll see a list of the backlinks you're already tracking and their current status.
To add a new backlink:
- Enter the Link From – the URL of the page that links to your site.
- Optionally, specify the Link To – the page on your site being linked. If you leave it blank, SiteGuru will detect the first link to your domain.
- You can also add the Anchor Text – the text used in the link.

What Happens Next
Once you’ve added the backlink, SiteGuru immediately checks it. If everything looks good, you’ll see the link listed in green.
If the anchor text is different from what you expected, or if the link is marked as “nofollow,” SiteGuru will show a warning. These are marked in red to grab your attention.
You can click See Details to understand what went wrong.

Customizing Link Checks
By default, SiteGuru warns you when a link is set to “nofollow,” as these links don’t pass SEO value. But in some cases, nofollow links are acceptable—for example, in user-generated content or affiliate links.
If you’re okay with a link being nofollow, just check the box to ignore the warning for that specific backlink.
Never Lose Your SEO Gains
Backlinks are hard to earn—and easy to lose. With SiteGuru’s Backlink Monitor, you’ll know right away if something changes, so you can take action and keep your SEO performance strong.
