17 Aug 2023

We're streamlining your experience to focus on what truly matters for your SEO success.

We've decided to retire the report listing Google Analytics and Tag Manager presence on pages.

The digital landscape is evolving, and more users are embracing alternatives, making it increasingly challenging to ensure accuracy.

This is not related to the Insights section: we're still pulling in all Google Analytics data to give you more insights.

14 Aug 2023

We're now using ChatGPT 4 to help you generate meta descriptions, page titles and headings.

Before, we used ChatGPT 3.5. This new version should give you even better content.

11 Aug 2023

Some small changes to make your life a little easier:

- In the Structured Data report, you can now see which pages do NOT have a particular type of structured data.
- The OpenGraph tag report shows you directly which tags are present and which not. This can also be exported to CSV or Excel
- You now have more options when adding a site, which used to be available only after the site was added. This lets you adjust the crawl speed, pagespeed settings and more before the crawl starts.

Enjoy!

13 Jul 2023

As of today, we'll alert you if your website does not have a favicon.

What is a favicon?
A favicon is a small image that represents a website or web page. It's shown in the browser address bar, bookmarks and the browser tabs. Having a recognizable favicon helps your visitors recognize your website.

Favicons and SEO
In recent years, Google has started showing favicons in the search results. A favicon helps your website stand out in the SERPs by providing visual differentiation, reinforcing brand association, and enhancing user experience.

Improvements to the sitemap report
Whenever a URL in your sitemap is redirected or doesn't work, this is shown in the sitemap report. To make it easier to solve the issue, we've added the link to the sitemap in which we found that URL. That's especially useful if you have many different sitemaps.

Duplicate fields
We often see pages with multiple titles or meta descriptions. This might happen if you're using two conflicting plugins. For both the title and the meta description, you should only have 1.

Whenever we find multiple meta descriptions or page titles, we'll alert you in the respective reports.

7 Jul 2023

We've heard you, fellow site owners and marketers! Crafting captivating meta descriptions, page titles, and headings can be a real hassle, but fret no more. We've just rolled out a revolutionary feature to make your lives easier. Say hello to our brand-new AI-powered generator for meta descriptions, page titles, and headings.

We use AI to craft engaging and SEO-friendly meta descriptions, page titles, and headings. All based on your target keyword and the context of your page.

Here's how it works:
In your site reports, click the Suggest button, and AI will come up with a meta description, page title or heading. All adhering to the latest SEO best practices. Need more inspiration? Just click Try Again, and we'll keep bringing you new suggestions.

Where to find it
You can find the Suggest button under Content, in the Meta Descriptions report, Page Titles report and Headings report.

Have you set up goals? (if not, you're missing out!) AI is also available in the Goals section. It helps you create titles, meta descriptions and headings for your target keyword.

29 Jun 2023

We're excited to announce the latest much-requested update to SiteGuru.

Previously, the reports were limited to viewing data for only 7 days, 30 days, or 90 days. But with our new update, you have the freedom to select your desired date range and comparison period.

This means you can analyze your website's performance with precision, gaining valuable insights into the success of your efforts. Discover keyword trends, track channels, monitor keywords, and identify low hanging fruit opportunities to optimize your website's performance.

It's important to note that Google Search Console data older than 16 months is not available. Nevertheless, within this timeframe, SiteGuru equips you with an arsenal of invaluable information to supercharge your optimization efforts.

6 Jun 2023

You've probably heard the news: Google's (old) version of Analytics will stop collecting data as of 1 July 2023.

If you've connected a Google Universal Analytics property to your SiteGuru account, you have 2 options:
  1. Create a GA4 property with Google Analytics (if you haven't done so), and connect that one to SiteGuru.
  2. Disconnect the Universal Analytics property, and rely on just Search Console data.

If you have any questions, please contact support.

31 May 2023

If you're using GA4, you may have seen some cases in which we could not show where your traffic comes from. That has been fixed now.

25 May 2023

We've just launched a cool new feature: SEO Goals.

Set target keywords and ranking goals to get the most relevant recommendations to improve your ranking for these keywords.

Step-by-step guidance

We'll help you step by step improve your pages and get more traffic for your most relevant keywords:

15 May 2023

As you've probably noticed, SiteGuru has a brand new look!

We've worked with a team of User Experience specialists to optimize your experience.

All reports are still the same, they just look a whole lot better, and are easier to scan.

We hope you like it as much as we do. If you have any feedback, please reach out!

16 Apr 2023

The new word count report helps you find thin content and pages with a low Text to HTML ratio.

A page with a low count does not have to be an SEO issue. The same holds for pages with a low text to HTML ratio: optimizing your code can help, but Text to HTML ratio itself is not a ranking factor.

Use this report to find outliers that could use some extra content, or code cleanup.

31 Mar 2023

We've tweaked the fonts, colors, icons and layout of SiteGuru a bit.

Not a huge change, but it's a bit easier on the eye and looks more modern and fresh.

We really like it, and we're curious to hear what you think!

21 Mar 2023

In some cases the full site tree would not be shown. We've fixed that, and also added the option to see your site structure up to 5 levels deep.

13 Mar 2023

SiteGuru Insights no longer requires Google Analytics. Instead, you can use Insights with just Google Search Console.

This update comes as more customers switch to privacy-friendly alternatives or no longer use Analytics.

While there are some limitations, the most important reports, like keyword tracking and content analysis, work great without Analytics.

February 28, 2023

We've fixed some issues and added some cool features:

  • If you're using white-label features, you can now disable the chat balloon for your clients.
  • Also, you can link to your own website from our footer.
  • Insights Reports now load a lot faster.
  • We've fixed an issue with incorrect data in your weekly performance emails.

February 24, 2023

We've added some features related to white-labeling. This lets you work with customers, without showing off you are using SiteGuru.

  • The emails to clients can be sent on behalf of your company name, and include your logo.
  • You can add a custom welcome text for your users, used in the invite email
  • You can choose to remove some SiteGuru branding, like our footer and name in the title. We'll roll this feature out to more places soon.

February 11, 2023

  • We found some mismatches in Google Search Console and Analytics data. Since Google Search Console data only comes available after 3 days, we've now aligned the GSC and Analytics date ranges to always look at the last week - 4 days. To clarify this, we've added the date range used to the graphs and dashboards.

February 8, 2023

  • We've added the New Keywords report: it shows you which keywords your site did not rank before, but now does show in the SERPs.
  • Similarly, the Lost Keywords report shows you the keywords that the site used to rank for, but now doesn't.
  • The layout of the CTR and Non-branded report are now aligned ith the other Insights reports
  • All Insights reports can now be exported to CSV

  • All exports now use the full URL (including domain name), instead of just the path.

February 2, 2023

  • Here's a feature we really love ourselves: the New Content Report. It helps you keep track of your new content, from being crawled, indexed, to ranking and finally clicks. Now available in the Insights section.
  • To fit everything in, we've grouped all Pages reports in Insights, and a tab for all Keywords reports.

January 31, 2023

  • Fixed a bug that showed the wrong page count for duplicate titles and meta descriptions
  • Fixed a bug that could cause redirected URLs to show up in the sitemap report, even though they were long gone.

January 23, 2023

  • Lots of stuff and small fixes going on. We've worked on improving the emails, to better show you any improvements you've made to a site. Also fixed a couple of bugs related to getting the structured data from a page.

January 2, 2023

  • Happy new year everyone! For the past couple of weeks, our focus has been on improving the load times of the reports. This remains an ongoing focus. The report overview should load much quicker, especially for accounts with many projects.

November 2, 2022

  • These days have been all about performance. We've made a lot of changes to make sure your report loads quickly, even for sites with many pages. The app should feel a lot more snappy now.

October 20, 2022

  • Trying to test a website on a staging environment, to make sure it's ready for go-live? You can now run audits on passowrd protected websites. Just enter the username and password in the Site Settings, and we can access and audit your site. Just to make sure it's in top shape for go-live.
We support Basic Authentication for this
  • The keyword report now lets you filter on Top 3, Top 10, outside Top 10, improved and declined keywords. This helps you quickly find the keywords to report on.
  • This one is really cool: Keyword Tracking! Hit the star icon next to a keyword in the keyword list, and this will show up in the Tracked Keywords report. This helps you focus on keywords that are really important to you.
We'll also add these keywords to your weekly update emails and to the Insights dashboard.

September 20, 2022

  • When opening a detailed window (something we call a 'modal'), the URL now updates, so you can refresh the window and still have the modal open.
  • The 7, 30 and 90 day timespans have been rolled out to most account.

September 14, 2022

  • We're experimenting with 7, 30 and 90 day timespans in SiteGuru Insights, so you can see your site's performance for different ranges.
  • Most reports now include a 'Check Again' button, which lets you check a meta description, page title, headings and more again for that page, without running an entire new Sitecheck. This helps you quickly test the improvements you've made to a page.

August 16, 2022

  • The Hreflang report now not only finds redirects, but also checks:
    • If there is a self-referencing hreflang
    • If the hreflang value is a valid language, or language-country combination
    • If the referenced page works without redirects

August 8, 2022

  • The CSV export of all the pages now also contains the data from Google Analytics (pageviews) and Google Search Console (impressions, avg. position, CTR and clicks)

July 29, 2022

  • There was an issue with counting the number of characters in meta descriptions. All fixed now!
  • The traffic source data on the page report didn't always load correctly. Thats fixed too.

July 25, 2022

  • New check: the sitechecker now alerts you if a page has dummy Lorem Ipsum text. All too often, these texts are used while testing a website, but accidentally end up on a live website. This new check alerts you whenever that happens.

July 22, 2022

  • New check: the sitechecker now alerts you if a page has multiple robots meta tags. Just so you don't accidentally stop a page from being indexed.

July 13, 2022

  • We got a lot of requests for better exporting of data. So here you go:
  • When exporting, you can choose CSV, XLSX or Copy to Clipboard
  • Most of the Insights reports can now also be exported

July 11, 2022

  • The Low-Hanging Fruit report helps you quickly find pages that almost are in the top 3, and tells you how to reach that top spot. More about low-hanging fruit.

June 29, 2022

  • The new competing pages now takes hreflangs into account: if a page is selected as a hreflang of the top page, it will no longer be shown as a competing pages. Sounds complex, but the result is a better overview of competing pages for international websites.

June 21, 2022

  • We have decided to stop checking external links. We're still checking internal links and redirects. Tough choice, and we explain the details in our latest blog.

June 21, 2022

  • Introducing the new Competing Internal Pages report: a fancy name for a report that shows which of your pages are ranking for the same keyword. Read all about it in our latest blog.
  • We've made some changes to how we onboard new customers. After signing up, we highlight your most important SEO task.

  • We've made some changes to how sitemaps are started. We'll skip the technical details, but it means the waiting time for your sitecheck is now a lot shorter.
  • The Site Tree now looks better: less text overlapping, and you can click straight to the page report.

May 9, 2022

  • We fixed an issue with relative links on pages. Sometimes, we turned a relative URL into something that didn't make sense. As a result, it looked as if links were broken, while they weren't. That's fixed now.
  • Since our indexation report now includes Google Indexation data, we thought it would be nice to explain how the report works in a bit more detail. This article about indexation has all the details.
  • We made some nice improvements to the crawler. It now crawls your site just a bit more quickly.

April 15, 2022

  • The CSV exports now use a comma (,) instead of a semicolon (;) as a separator. This makes importing the data into Google Sheets a lot easier.

April 11, 2022

  • The canonical report included URLs that were redirected. This has been fixed.

  • Google has released its Page Inspection API. We're using this to fetch your pages coverage status and last crawl date.
These are shown in the indexation report.
  • Additionally, we're getting the canonical URL used by Google from that same API. This is shown in the Canonical URL report

January 26, 2022

January 6, 2022

Happy new year! I haven't posted an update here for some time. But in the meantime, a lot of work has been done.

  • We've made massive improvements to the crawling engine. For large sites with many pages, a recrawl could take up to 30 minutes or even more. That's been brought down to about 5 minutes. This saves you a lot of time waiting for your report.
  • Same for the link checker: we'll spare you the technical details, but sites with a lot of links now get checked a lot faster.
  • We made various performance improvements to support bigger sites. We can now support sites with about 10,000 pages in one report without crashing our servers.

On top of that, we have ambitious plans for 2022! We'll keep you posted.

November 11, 2021

  • In the Internal Link report, you can see all the pages and how many internal links they have pointing to them. A warning sign is shown for pages with zero internal links. From now on, that warning sign is no longer shown if the the page is noindexed.
  • In the Insights tab, you can now drill down on metrics like Engagement rate or Time on Site. This shows a graph with that metric, and how it evolved over time.

November 3, 2021

  • When selecting a Google Search Console property, you can now also select a specific country. If you do so, we'll only get data specific for that country. If you're running a non-international website, selecting the country helps you get a much better idea of your overall rankings in that country.
  • Insights Dashboard now includes the Content that needs attention report. This shows you pages that used to bring in a lot of traffic, but recently dropped in rankings and now get fewer traffic.
  • The CTR curve report in SiteGuru Insights now also includes a date picker, so you can select a specific period to report on.
  • We solved various issues related to sorting in the Insights reports. Sorting now works as you would expect.
  • The Non-branded traffic report is now also available on the Insights Dashboard
  • The indexability report used to show warnings for all pages that are not indexable. We've removed this warning for pages that are normally noindexed, such as /cart, /wp-login.php, /search and more. You'll still see those as noindexed, but they will not trigger a warning.

October 18, 2021

  • We've started experimenting with setting your crawl location. This is especially useful if your site uses geoblocking. By default, we will crawl your site from Ireland. Upon request, we can change that to the United States. Just shoot us an email.
  • Various performance optimization, resulting in faster loading reports.

October 4, 2021

  • The Non-branded report in SiteGuru Insights now lets you set the date range. We're planning to add this to more Insights report soon.
  • We've made some changes to how we check the OG-tags on your site. In a few days, we'llnot just tell you that some OG-tags are missing, but also which ones.
  • We're now detecing if your site has a language selector, and if so, we recommend you add hreflang-tags if you don't do so yet.

September 27, 2021

  • Details about keywords, pagespeed and more now open on the side of your screen. Looks better, and gives more space.
  • You can now contact us via Intercom. Just click the green text balloon at the bottom of your screen
  • We've paid extra attention to the stability of our platform. As a result, your pagechecks will complete a bit faster.
  • If you're having issues with crawling, you can now select the User Agent you want us to use to crawl your site. More info.

September 6, 2021

  • You can change the weekly graphs in SiteGuru Insights to a daily view.
  • We've worked on some technical changes to speed up crawling of your site,
  • The page report now shows you where people using that page came from (organic, direct, CPC, etc.)
  • We added some documentation about connecting your Google account.

August 30, 2021

  • We've completely revamped the page report. We felt most of the valuable information was hidden behind the tabs. Now, it has all the info you need in one screen, with the option to dive deeper if needed. We've brought in more keyword and traffic related data as well.
  • Some sitemaps (particularly when zipped) could not be opened, which meant we sometimes missed pages when crawling. That's fixed now.
  • We wrote a little about how we crawl and check your site.

August 19, 2021

A very productive week! Here's what we did:

  • SiteGuru Insights now connects to GA4, the new version of Google Analytics. If you're using GA4 and were unable to connect before, please try again. Some of the metrics are slightly different from Universal Analytics, so instead of Time on Site and Bounce Rate, we now include Engagement Rate and Engatement Time.
    More about GA4
  • Running an audit on a big site, but you're not interested in all the sections? You can now exlude specific folders from the crawl. Imagine you want to crawl an entire site except for the blog. Just add /blog to list of excluded folders, and we'll skip that and everything in it. Add as much folders as you like.
    More about excluding folders
  • The timeline of your site now not only includes the latest changes, but also the Site Health Score over time, in a nice graph. This helps you see if your SEO work is paying off:)
  • Various performance improvements, making the crawl and the link checks complete faster.
  • I started to write some articles about how to use SiteGuru. I realize the tool has become quite extensive. Although it should always be intuitive, some of the pro features may require some explanation. I plan to add more articles about how you can use SiteGuru in your day to day work, for example during site migrations, content optimizations, and more.
How to use SiteGuru (more to come)

August 10, 2021

We thought it would be a good idea to create a changelog. We're building a lot of stuff, and this seems like a good way to keep track of it.

  • Added the changelog

July 30, 2021

  • Ignore your noindex pages with one click, to ignore them in all reports.
  • You can now customize their experience by adding your own logo. Go to whitelabel settings and select ‘Show own logo on top of page’.
